Scuba specialty training allows certified divers to expand their skills, gain experience in new environments, and build confidence underwater. Aquatic Sports teaches a full range of SSI specialty courses, each focused on specific techniques, conditions, or dive scenarios.

Specialty courses can be taken individually or combined toward SSI recognition ratings such as Specialty Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver. Contact Aquatic Sports to discuss availability and scheduling.

Specialty Courses

DEEP DIVING

The SSI Deep Diving Specialty teaches the skills required to safely dive to depths between 18 and 40 meters. Training focuses on planning deep dives, managing gas supply, understanding narcosis, and handling emergency procedures associated with deeper diving.

DIVER STRESS AND RESCUE

The Diver Stress and Rescue course teaches you how to recognize stress in yourself and others, prevent accidents, and respond effectively to emergency situations. This course builds confidence and situational awareness and is considered one of the most valuable specialty programs for any diver.

DRY SUIT DIVING

Dry Suit Diving introduces the skills required to dive comfortably in colder water. You will learn proper dry suit use, buoyancy control, and how to manage emergency situations unique to dry suit systems. This course is ideal for Pacific Northwest diving.

ENRICHED AIR NITROX

The Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty teaches you how to dive safely using enriched air mixtures. Nitrox can extend no-decompression limits and reduce surface intervals when used correctly. Training covers planning, analysis, and safe use of enriched air.

EQUIPMENT TECHNIQUES

Equipment Techniques focuses on understanding your total diving system. You will learn how to select, maintain, and store scuba equipment to ensure reliability and performance. This course helps divers become more confident and self-sufficient with their gear.

NAVIGATION

The Navigation Specialty teaches safe underwater navigation using both compass skills and natural navigation techniques. Training helps divers improve confidence and orientation during dives, especially in low-visibility or unfamiliar environments.

NIGHT AND LIMITED VISIBILITY

Night and Limited Visibility training prepares divers for safe diving in low-light conditions. You will learn proper dive planning, communication, entry and exit procedures, and how to manage equipment and awareness when visibility is reduced.

PERFECT BUOYANCY

The Perfect Buoyancy Specialty focuses on improving buoyancy control, trim, and breathing efficiency. This course helps divers move effortlessly through the water, reduce gas consumption, and protect the underwater environment.

WRECK DIVING

Wreck Diving teaches safe techniques for exploring artificial wrecks. Training includes wreck awareness, planning, hazard identification, and proper procedures for diving around submerged structures.
